About

The origin

Two sisters, Clemency and Melissa, live hemispheres apart on opposite seasons. The way they have been able to stay connected between Aotearoa (New Zealand) and France is to share books, music, materials and fragrance.

Clemency, a composer and perfumer longs for access to discover fragrance but it is difficult due to location, in the South Island of New Zealand where overseas shipping challenges restrict. Instead she has the joy of being able to inhale the salty Pacific Ocean. She lives right on its iron sands.

Melissa lives in France near Grasse and has had full immersion, from jasmine picking to growing her own ingredients. She loves to walk amongst the garrigue which blooms on the spicy terracotta hills snugged under the Alpes Maritimes and study phytotherapy.

Both were bought up for a period in Melanesia and that is where they fell in love with fragrance, inspired by ylang ylang and hibiscus, held by warm humidity with wood smoke and played together with their gifted minature Guerlain perfume set as childhood treasure.

The inspiration of House of DeuxPies began with their sharing of gifts and handmade objects to stay connected with fragrance from afar.

The house

The House of DeuxPies is now that shared cross hemisphere conversation bought to life and wider. The archive or reader is that ongoing conversation made public, being built as a cultural olfactory travelogue. Each entry carries an era, a plant, a molecule, a human story.

The editions

The Editions released from the House are what Clemency and Melissa would have shared between them. Connections with fragrance, made by hand, in limited numbers, connected to the conversations that Clemency and Melissa are having between them. Each one is different and each one is limited.

The first is the pomander, a limited handmade number of that same gift that inspired the beginning of the House.

Subscribers to the house have first access to limited editions as they are released. The editions are collectable and will be collaborative.
