Lesser Calamint
Calamintha nepeta
The smell
Spicy, basilic and mint-like. Sharp and herbal with a clean green freshness when the leaves are bruised. Dominant in the Provençal garrigue from late summer through November.

Digestive and carminative. Infusion of leaves treats gastrointestinal complaints and improves digestion.
Historical use
Known to healers across southern France and Italy for centuries. Grows abundantly against rock walls and chalky footpaths. Infusions used for bloating and gastrointestinal disorders across Mediterranean folk medicine.
